Passo Co

Passo Co have developed and strengthened the concept of Capoeira as an art form, dance and expression through choreographed works, traditional performances and workshops exploring the relationship between the traditional and the contemporary Capoeira forms.

The company was established in 1993 by Silvia Bazzarelli and Marcos dos Santos. Together, they have created 8 productions including “Morte do Capoeira”, “Maré”, “Arid Land”, “Play Low”, “Capoeira Is”, “Baker Street 5”, Waterloo 3 and “Long Haul”.

Passo Co’s work

Passo Co´s directors, Silvia Bazzarelli and Marcos dos Santos, are both qualified Capoeira masters and their extensive work and experience have been reflected upon Passo Co productions.

Passo Co’s movement language and physicality are simply tools however complicated and skilled they may seem. These are used to create ideas, stories and interaction with the audience. We aim to reach the audience with new visual experiences.

Long Haul
Long Haul captures the journey of one passenger travelling long haul in between two worlds. “Long Haul” offers snap shots of the mundane minutiae of the airport and departure lounge experience and contrasts them with building anticipation and shiny excitement of the new arrival in a long awaited but unfamiliar city.

Baker Street 5
Baker Street 5” is a bite sized blast of Capoeira style storytelling, young performers from the LSC give their unique light hearted take on the all too familiar ‘daily grind’ of commuting.

Play Low
Play Low explores how people today are searching, speeding, ducking and diving, following the yet unknown ultimate satisfaction. Play Low performers capture these emotions through daring Capoeira fighting & intricate Capoeira “playing” techniques and a mellow acceptance of movement and temporary end.

Maré
In South American industrial landscape a worker’s dreams of bygone days. Ghosts from an ancestral experience invade reality, taking us on a surreal journey. A performance with stunning movement exposing the story of Capoeira. Multimedia elements including music, percussion, images and film come together to create an inspirational introduction to the origins of the art.

Morte Do Capoeira follows the tracks of the art form leaping through African Roots to the Brazilian beat fusing combat and acrobatics, dance and sharp wit, percussion and physical theatre.
